Does anyone know how to change a floor lamp from a torchiere to a regular lampshade style?

I don’t know what kind of hardware might be available.

There is plenty of hardware available. While the availability and selection is quite broad there is a wide range of cost associated with such conversion. What will be the driving force will be the configuration of the lamp you wish to convert. If the lamp shade/bulb covering is made like those for a halogen lamp then the conversion will most likely require a complete rework.
Here are some of the glass shades available.

Quite expensive for my tastes.
Lots of parts and choices here:

  1. First unplug it

  2. If your lamps are anything like mine, you’d have to remove the original globe. I think the socket and threads and all for the bulb are separate. Then buy a new lampshade. Get the kind with the 2 wire loops that grip the bulb directly. I think if you do this, it’s going to look sorta strange…the lamp is going to be too high.

  4. The system is so different the the least expensive way to go would be to get a new lamp.
2nd way, find a used one and make it pretty.
3rd way, get a likely piece of junk and rebuild it to your taste.
(flea market or garage sale if you have the time).

Most of the Home Centers will have all the parts you need.
