is it okay to mix contemporary furniture with traditional furniture?

10 Feb

I have a lamp table, sofa table, couch and 2 lazy boys in my living room, which are all traditional in style. The tables are a cherry color. I mounted a flat screen on the wall and want to put a media center under it. The one I’m looking at is a contemporary style and a darker color/almost black. Is it okay to do this or would it look funny?

If it’s a media center, I don’t think it would be that much of a home decor faux pas to have a modern design. I mean, just having a flat screen TV in the room automatically clashes with the traditional furniture. That’s like wondering if having a computer in the room will clash with traditional furniture. Well, unless the furniture was designed in the last 10 years or so, yes. But, you have no choice.

I think the black would be okay. Although, there are a lot of nice traditional looking media centers out there that might go well with what you have.

This page has a few traditional looking media centers that might work. And, I highly recommend this place. I got a couple of units from them a couple years ago. They have free shipping, no sales tax, and some of the best prices I’ve seen. And, the items I bought arrived at my house within 3 days of ordering.

Embellishing your home with the beautifully painted walls and perfectly contrasted curtains is fun. Without matching sofas your movie room is totally incomplete. We all understand that real fun of any movie room is in its seating arrangements. For that Berkline sofas will be the most affordable and wise choice.

We find that many of our customers mix our traditional wooden lamps with their ultra modern interiors.

It’s best to go for a timeless design rather than something too contemporary – ethnic usually works well too.
