A console floor lamp really is the classic floor lamp design.  This is they style and type you will see most frequently, especially at many a floor lamps sale.  You will see these versions with a flat and rounded base, using an upright pole to give is some vertical dimension.  Located at the top of the pole is mounted some type of shade made of fabric or glass, which houses the bulb.  They way the shade is designed the light will be directed from the top lamp downward toward the floor.  You will quite often see modern console lamps fabricated with two light sockets which enables it to generate more lumens.

Another popular lamp design is the arc shape lamp.  These lamps are quite often used in a modern theme and decorum.  As you probably could guess it is so named because instead of a vertical pole to hold the lamp up the pole is formed in some type of arc.  Usually you will see the beams of light directed downward with arc shaped lamps.  You may see these lamps with one bulb, or you can see them with several smaller bulbs giving a starburst type of effect.  I have often times seen these lamps at a floor lamps sale at the mega home improvement stores.

Outside of these popular designs there is a mish mash of others to consider.  New age design lamps are more on the creative side, and are quite often seen with lamps that have been blended into other furniture.  They are usually extremely practical and space efficient, but they do not suite all tastes the same.  And while we are discussing functionality, there are a whole range of lamps that have either shelving or trays built in to them.  They are quite practical and space saving, as they not only provide you with light but a shelf as well to add knick knacks, magazines, or other small decorations.  On the more extreme utilitarian side are the floor lamps that have adjustable heights and widths.  Usually all that is usually required to adjust these floor lamps is simply loosening and knob, setting it to your requirements, then tightening the knob back up again.

These are the basic designs available to you as you go shopping for your new lamp.  Each has their own unique style of design and functionality to suit most almost any need.  So the next time you go to any floor lamps sale, keep these points in mind to maximize your shopping experience.
