Everything Lamps

I work in an office that is in a basement, with no sunlight whatsoever. In addition, this office has no fluorescent light. Instead, it’s lit by 2 incandescent lights in "torchiere" style (those tall lamps with a "bowl" that faces upward).

I’d love to have some plants in here, but ever since my Snakeplant died, I’ve been afraid to bring another one in.

Are there any plants that could work in here? Thanks.

There are a number of plants that can survive ‘in the dark’. In fact, I want to plant a midnight garden. All the plants bloom at night. Check with your local nursery or florist. I’m sure they can help you. Good luck!

Or How About That Lava Lamp Comeback? Halogen Torchiere Lamps Anyone? What Will It Take To Convince You That They Are Trying To Sell You As Much Energy As Possible? There’s No Limit, No Shortage, And Global Warming Is The Least Of Their Concerns. Or Would You Rather I Tell You About How They Try To Give You The Lowest MPG As Humanly Possible, Even On What They Call Economy Cars And/Or Hybrids.

The 150 W is way too weak. I think even 200 won’t do the job. I can’t replace with a CFL because my whole idea is to use these with X10 lamp switches — and those don’t work with CFL bulbs. Would 300 watt bulb really be unsafe? Thanks!

If the fixture is rated for no more than 150W, and you put a larger lamp in it, then the wiring will get hot and probably start a fire. The fixture will say on a label what the maximum wattage bulb you can use.
